I don't know whether this information is accurate, but I heard that the ending to the Holy Grail wasn't originally planned to be the way it is. Production of the film was allegedly halted under pressure from the queen (you can sort of see how she might be ticked off by a movie like THG), and under the circumstances, the Python crew decided to end the film by having it be literally shut down by the authorities. Thus, we get to see Arthur and company arrested and hauled off in a squad car.
Again, I don't know if this is true; it's just something I've heard. It certainly doesn't make the ending any less clever, I think.
