I've always considered myself a "cat person." I find them to be very interesting animals. So I have been looking forward to seeing "Cats," the play by Andrew Lloyd Webber. We just got back from Crossville where "Cats" was playing at the Cumberland County Playhouse. They did a splendid job. The actors were dressed in those outlandish cat costumes with cat makeup. They had mastered cat mannerisms such as the stare, the stretch, and the slink. The cast included people of all ages and all turned in excellent performances. Even the cats in the background of production numbers continued to do cat things instead of just being part of the scenery.
The music was great. I drove home replaying it in my head.
We have been going to the CCP theatre for more than 30 years. I've never seen a bad performance yet, but certain plays stand out. We have seen "Oklahoma!" twice, "South Pacific," "Music Man" and dozens of others. "Cats" ranks up there with the best. Howard
