When my wife and I were married, neither of us owned a television. So we began our married life together in our first apartment without one, and it was wonderful. We have one now, but only because my mom bought it for us at an auction; it's one of the old 2,000 pound (exaggerated) models from the late 70's. I hardly ever use it unless I'm watching a video or DVD. The internet (primarily this site) has become my preferred means of unwinding now.
I would recommend to anyone who is getting married to try to spend your first year together TV-less. My sister and brother-in-law tried it, and The Scotsman and his new bride are doing it as well. The time you would spend watching TV is much better spent building your relationship with each other.
