A new sound in at Indianapolis posted by Howard on Thursday, June 26, 2003, at 12:51:27:
> A new sound was heard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was 507 vintage Cushman motor scooters. We lined them up and took a parade lap around the famous 2.5 mile squared oval which is knicknamed "The Brickyard" because it was at one time paved with bricks. In honor of this historical fact, a single yard-wide band of bricks accents the start-finish line. It was something of a thrill to cross that yard of bricks on my 40-year-old Cushman Super Silver Eagle. > > Considering that many of the old scoots were carrying two people, I think it is safe to say that at least 700 members of the Cushman Club of America shared the honor. > > A year ago, my Eagle has also turned a lap or two at Loews Motor Speedway near Charlotte, North Carolina. Also my 50-year-old Allstate DeLuxe (made by Cushman) and my 56-year old Cushman model 52 have made laps at the famous 1.5 mile North Carolina track. The old model 52, which was built in 1947, actually circled the track 14 times about 7 years ago. No scooter speed records have ever been set at Loews or The Brickyard. > > More about the CCOA National meet later. > Howard
Howard, you do the coolest things!
I'm going to be near your neck of the woods next week, in a place called Dandridge, which I understand isn't far from Sevierville and your beloved Dollywood! I kind of hope we are able to go there, too.
I can hardly wait!
