It happened very early on in the movie... one of
the first scenes, as I recall. That guy (Bane)
and his fellow crewmate had just escaped
some agents and were at their exit. Bane let
his friend go first, and then before he could
use the phone, Smith sneaked up on him and
absorbed him. In the Matrix, he became
another Smith, who then used the exit, and
woke up on his ship with a sinister look in his
eyes...
