Never mind that. I just saw a reader poll question that said, "What's your choral voice part?" I noticed that contralto outpolled soprano nearly two to one. I find that strange because I haven't known very many 'altos. Not that I have a very good ear for music, but my sister is a rather low-pitched singer with power to spare. Like me, she went to a number of different schools as we moved around, and the first thing she did was join up with the choral group. They were always glad to get her, because most groups were made up of three dozen sopranos and little else. Sometimes they would try to recruit me after they found out that I was a bass, but I was on the bashful side and only sang in the shower. Sometimes the school singers would include a tenor or two but bass and soprano were hard to find. If they had heard my limited range of about half an octave, and my terrible voice, they would have been less interested. I think my sister ratted on me as a joke.
