Yes, exactly. That's a very good point. Have you watched the Animatrix yet? I suggest you check it out if you're interested in more of the backstory (Wal-Mart is selling the DVD for like $10). One of the really interesting points in one of the Animatrix shorts is that the humans and machines now have a symbiotic relationship, where each is dependent upon the other. It would seem a good irony for the machines to develop artificial intelligences that are sympathetic to human causes -- it would bring the whole story full-circle.
