Strange that you should mention that, Sarah. My grandson and I just made one last week. First you find a strong forked stick. Trim the big end to a size that is comfortable for you to grip. About 5 inches max. Cut the upper parts of the fork about six inches above where they separate and you have a Y shape. I like maple best, but oak or other hardwoods are good. Cut a ring about half an inch from the top of the two branches and then go down about half an inch and cut another one. Remove the bark between these rings. This will hold the rubber bands in place. Next, cut some foot long rubber bands from an innertube. If you have long arms make them 14 inches. They need to be about half an inch wide. Then get a leather "pocket" which is oval and about 3 inches across. Cut two slots in the ends of the pocket (a shoe tougue is best). Next, wrap the end of one of the rubber bands around the top of the fork and have some one stretch it real tight while you tie it with a string. Knot it tight as close to the fork as you can. Do the same on the other side and on both sides of the pocket. Be sure the rubber bands are straight and it's best to keep the end of the bands on the outside. Hold the fork with your left hand, if you are right handed, and pinch a rock in the pocket. Pull back and let go. Eye protection is recommended in case a band or the fork breaks. Round rocks work best and you can even shoot marbles or steel balls. Be very careful. That may look like a toy, but it's a weapon. Howard
