_The_Matrix_ is part of a genre of literature known as myth. Also included in this genre is the Bible. Being myth as such is not a declaration of truth or falsehood, but rather a recogition of similar components (Other modern myths include Star Wars, Dune, The Silmarillion). Like George Lucas borrowing elements of earthly cultures to make his worlds seem more authentic, The Matrix uses the name Zion because of its connotation that helps connect with the portion of its audience that cares about religious things. Incidentally, cults like Heaven's Gate (the alien-worshipers that killed themselves in matching Nikes a few years back) often use the name Zion within their belief systems.

As for the triune humanity idea, wow--i wish i could be so clear and rational as you when i post on here. But the idea of a divised soul and spirit has never been resolved through the centuries of theology and philosophy. Even in the 20th century, recognized Christian minds like Watchman Nee and H. A. Ironside received heavy criticism for taking the sides they did on the issue. Its one of those messes where people defend the idea of a dual human nature (body/soul or body/spirit, whichever term you prefer) using scripture, and those who hold to the tripartite idea use as their defense, well, scripture. Argh. Sometimes i hate this whole "Call me human and tell me i have to think" problem. Bleagh.
