You see, according to their calculations, if Neo DIDN'T have the black dress, then the additional flight speed from the lack of extra air resistance would have allowed him to save Morpheus/Keymaker well before the tanker collision, as well as keep Trinity from getting shot in the first place. And that sort of anticlimactic moment was out of place in this movie.
