I've set up osCommerce before with no problem. It's pretty easy to set up, but one thing to consider is that if you're going to be taking orders yourself, you'll want an SSL certificate (so you can use the "https" secure URL type instead of plain "http"). If you're using PayPal, 2CheckOut, etc (which are supported by osCommerce), it's not such a problem as you won't be taking credit card details directly, but it's still advisable.

In short, it's not really worth paying $1000 for setting it up.
