The general point is, in these cultures, there is no "teenage" or adolescent period. There are simply youths, who then just become adults. This would thus imply that what we know of as the adolescent condition is not something that is genetic, or "natural", if you will. Therefore, it must be a manufactured by the environment in which a person is raised.

The cynicism comes into play with a "the world tells me I'm supposed to be adolescent, not me" sort of mentality. I'm not sure if that's the right solution for everyone, though.
