Forum and RinkChat: A Shifting of the Community posted by Sam on Monday, April 14, 2003, at 13:29:30:
I have been away from Rinkworks for a long time. A LONG time. I first came here over four years ago, and was a regular poster on the forum and in Rinkchat for over two years.
However, I have been very busy over the last couple of years. I have been preparing for going to University next year, which in this country means going through endless exams and pieces of coursework. In short, I haven't had time to come here.
Recently, however, my workload has been lessening slightly. I no longer have to work all day, all weekend. I have had time to update my website, go to forums, even help set up my own forum. However, until now, I had completely forgotten about Rinkworks.
Rinkworks IS a unique place. Other forums don't promote the use of good grammar and spelling, don't abhor swearing and flamewars, have constant spamming and advertising on them. This is why I like Rinkworks - and why, if my scheduling allows, I may make a return.
I have tried to make a few returns to the chatroom, most lately when Rookchat was started up. However, I experienced pretty much what Sam said - a mainly idle, chatless environment. When I began, times like that were rare (partly because the "Idle" function hadn't been added, but you know what I mean). When other people don't talk, I don't talk - it's part of my conditioning.
However, until a few months ago, I really didn't like going on forums. I didn't like the way that it could sometimes take ages for a response. I didn't like the way that it seemed so impersonal, unlike chatrooms. Setting up my own forum changed that. I now like forums as much as I like chatrooms - a lot. I especially like the RinkForum.
So, to sum it all up, I am returning. I hope that the current trend halts soon. And, if you like, you can call me Cherky.
