Um. Stephen has been saying constantly throughout this thread that he DOES believe in the "law of the universe" as opposed to divine purpose. You do realise that, right?

>I'm not sure what everyone has been saying about objective and subjective purposes, but I hope I have clarified a little.

Look up "objective" and "subjective". Please. This is at the heart of the massive communication breakdown which this thread has turned into, and you will not be getting much out of your classes in philosophy and ethics if you can't understand the difference, and the processes of logical thought involved in that difference. I really recommend you talk to your professor about this whole debate -- perhaps even print out the thread and show it to him/her. I'll try to put it as simply as I can:

You ask for an objective viewpoint when asking "What do you think is the purpose of ALL life?"

You ask for a subjective viewpoint when asking "What do you think is the purpose of YOUR life?"

This difference is what Stephen, myself and some others have been trying to get across as being the fundamental problem with your original question. You originally asked, in effect, "What do you think is the purpose of ALL life?", a question which by its very nature can ONLY be answered from a spiritual/religious perspective, when I think what you meant to ask was the second question given above. That's all.
