No. A thing cannot be blamed for a 'community breakdown' unless it is a point of contention and debate that causes rifts in the community.
It is people who are at fault, not one single 'thing'. Something being different or for some people easier does not mean it's at fault for anything.
Passing the buck on to AIM or LJ or The Kid Down The Block Who Won't Leave Me Alone is rather ridiculous in my opinion. Those little 'bubbles' of closer association are completely natural in a community of this size, and I don't think LJ has anything to do with their formation. The little 'bubbles' I belong to were created long before Rinkies began getting journals.
We can't blame our on negligence of our community on anything else besides ourselves. Just because some other medium might seem 'easier' doesn't mean it's at fault. We are, for not making the additional effort to maintain our community here.
Just thought I'd let that out.
