And while we're on the subject of helpful AIM hints, I'll add that it is possible to restrict the people who can see you on AIM to a list that you provide.

From the Buddy List: My AIM -> Edit Options -> Edit Preferences -> Privacy; from there, select "Allow only the users below" and type the appropriate AIM names in the box provided.
