I've only read a few responses to this, and I'm sure this information is somewhere in the rest of them, but I'm giving it now out of a sense of awe (I forget how YOUNG you guys are sometimes) and frustration, because in the responses I did read, it was STILL incorrect information:

It is a song by DONOVAN, not John Lennon. It is called "Mellow Yellow" and came out well before the softdrink. Back in the sixties/seventies when Donovan was popular, so were names like "Flower" and "Ocean." I can only assume "Saffron" struck someone as a nice name, too. The spice itself makes all things it touches very yellow. There is a website at www.songfile.com that probably has the lyrics. I recently read an article that said Gap was choosing the songs for their ability to stick in your head. Seems to have worked.
