You can add this to the list of things I don't understand:
I was airing up the tires on the scooters that I intend to take to the scooter meet and most were low to nearly flat. The two tires that didn't need air were the oldest tires. They are about 50 years old. The oldest of the flat one's are no more than 18 years old and some are about five.
I have no explanation.

In case you are wondering, the older the tires the slower I go, and I usually don't go much over 35 on the best tires. I'm speaking strictly about scooters here. Four-wheeled vehicles are another story.
