Way back in the day (1996) when I created my first web site (well okay, SECOND, but the first one was really stupid) I couldn't think of a decent topic for it. Basically I just wanted a personal home page like everybody else was getting. But I figured that in order to separate my site from all the drivel out there, I had better come up with a good theme. So I came up with uselessness. It gave me a chance to make some goofy jokes, program a couple of simple web games, and make fun of myself a lot. So Parker's Page O' Uselessness was born. (My real name's Parker.)
At that time, I decided to use the nickname "uselessness" everywhere I went on the internet. I guess I thought it increased brand recognition for my web site or something silly like that.
Fast-forward to today. PPOU is no more. Well, technically I think it still exists because I never took it off Geocities. I don't advertise it and I have moved on to other things. Today my web site is insanityfarm.com, sort of the next generation of PPOU. I still use the username "uselessness" everywhere and think it's kind of cool, though its significance has been lost over the years. I'm a lot stronger in my faith now than I was in 1996 too, so I sometimes mention that my nickname is an allusion to Ecclesiastes 1:2 -- "'Meaningless! Meaningless!' says the Teacher. 'Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.'"
