Ballplayers still chew, although maybe not in as great numbers as they used to. But like TOM said, it's not something they're proud of anymore for the most part. And if you watch baseball on TV rather than going out to a game, you won't see it. You might see a guy with a huge wad in his cheek, but generally the cameras are careful not to dwell on a guy too long, lest he spit a stream of tobacco or adjust himself live in front of the nation. Although since ballplayers still "adjust" themselves so frequently, you *will* see that much more often than you will a guy spitting.
