>What about drugs? Are those food? If I do a line of coke, I'm consuming something, and my body is *also* getting energy out of the deal.
Cocaine doesn't "give" you energy, it interferes with sodium transport systems in the central nervous system, making the body respond by increasing heart rate, blood pressure, and often causing the release of adrenalin.
The general effect of this is to make you feel as though you own the world - a feeling of mental and physical well-being, combined with higher apparent energy levels and physical strength.
At higher doses, it has an anaesthetic effect, ad can cause fatigue, drowsiness, and a feeling of confusion.
Also it doesn't dissolve well in blood plasma, and has a tendency to just rip your nose to shreds - which is why your septum eventually falls out from too much use. If you inject it, it precipitates in the bloodstream and can cause blood clots and circulatory problems.
Not food. Just nasty.
