A potential employer that looks at your resume and sees a lot of work experience in this exotic place called "New Zealand" will undoubtedly wonder if you are a U.S. citizen, or if you're trying to get a company to sponsor you on a visa. If they're really interested in you, they'll call and ask, but a lazy employer with a lot of resumes might not want to bother. If it says "Work Status: U.S. Citizen" or so on your resume, that'll clear that one up before it ever becomes an issue.

Oh yeah, my work status is almost at the top of the resume, just after my blatantly local address. That was one of the reasons I didn't start applying to jobs until I was here -- I was pretty sure that even if I said "US CITIZEN, MOVING TO DENVER WHETHER I GET THIS JOB OR NOT, NO RELOCATION ASSISTANCE WANTED HERE!" the mere fact that the application came from another country would land it in the garbage unread.
