Recently, on a long airline flight, they showed a movie called Sweet Home Alabama. The sound quality on airplanes is so bad, I never use the headphones. My lip-reading skills are limited, so I went to sleep.

But today, I saw the movie with real sound, and my impression was, it's been done. There was nothing new in it. Every little bit of the plot has been done and done in other movies for years. But it wasn't all bad. At first I thought it was another one of those movies that tries to make southerners look stupid, and it *did* seem to use the "Hey, you all watch this!"sterotype that was created in Hollywood. But in the end, the southerners were as smart as anybody else. Naturally, the sterotypes drove pickup trucks and talked with a phoney drawl, and did all sorts of outlandish things. They drank and cussed, and hung out in bars, but in the movies almost everybody does that. There were even hound dogs and cornball policemen. I kept waiting for Uncle Jesse and the Duke boys to show up.

I have to admit that I liked Candice Bergen as the overbearing mother/politician from New York, but she was just another sterotype.

And there is something familiar about Reece Witherspoon. Did she make movies as a child? It seems like I remember her at about 11 or 12 in a movie that was set in the tidewater country somewhere between Virginia and Georgia. I don't remember the title of the movie or what it was about.

But don't pass up SHA on my account. There is some entertainment value there, as long as you don't mind the lack of originality.
