I don't know whether it counts in this, but my preferred comedians have to be the Goons - Eccles, Bluebottle, and Seagoon (going by the aliases Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, and Harry Secombe). They were on radio, not usually live, and were much funnier (in my opinion, and I'm sure I'm not alone) than anything of the era, and funnier than most things since too.
