I don't consider myself an American in any sense except on paper, but it's certainly very useful having that. I travelled on my US passport, and when I go back home I'll travel on my NZ one. > > I realize it's very likely just an age thing, but most of the friends i've had were so excited to get their passports (generally college students on their first one) would do it just the opposite. Actually, it does annoy me that I don't get a stamp in my passport this way. However, it would annoy me far more to stand in a four-hour queue at Immigration instead of a five-minute one. I was lucky this time, and there wasn't much of a wait at LA in either line, but I've been there before when it literally was a several-hour difference in processing time.
I was also a bit annoyed at having to renew my New Zealand passport before I left (my old one would have expired halfway through my stay here), because my old one had cool stamps and visas stuck in it like Japan, Samoa, and Vanuatu.
