In order to get this thread back to something near it's original subject, I offer this thought:
The best way to see snow is from an airplane. A number of times I have flown over the Rocky Mountains when they were covered with snow. Beautiful. But much better because I was seated in a reasonably comfortable place with climate control. I have seen snow just on the peaks, snow completely covering everything but the evergreen trees, and snow so heavy I could see the scars left by avalanches.
When you are flying six miles above sea level and you cross mountains that are three miles high, the scenery is only three miles below you. (Ayeaiiiii! I did math! Icky!) Usually, I see these scenes between Chicago and L.A. and I have to say that westbound is best, because I know I will be stepping off the plane in balmy Southern California. I like snow at a distance and from a warm, comfortable viewing position. That's how I would like to see the Snowy Mountains, the Himalayas, the Alps, the Andes, and the Urals. Howard
