All of this nostalgia stuff reminds me of the first time I ever saw television. It was 1951 in Nashville and I was in high school. I walked out of bright sunshine into my Aunt Eloise's dimly lit living room and there was a bluish flickering light in one corner. I looked over there and saw an old guy in a cowboy hat and a Col. Sanders beard. He was talking about the cowboy movie he was about to show.
Channel 4, WSM TV, was the only television station in Nashville and their studio and transmitter were on a hill top only about three blocks from Eloise's house. We had just moved to Tennessee from Florida where only Miami and Jacksonville had TV. A few day after our arrival, we went to the station and toured the studio. I remember thinking that it was like moving into the 21st Century. But the truth is that the second half of the 20th had just begun. Howard
