So I was just hopeing that in all of the people at rinkworks I could find just a few more people who do not care for it, because really... it disturbs me how much everyone else likes it. Like, maybe something is wrong with them all. Or maybe something is wrong with me. > > Heh. > > I mean, I understand one person finding something ultimatly funny while I do not. But when everyone I know seems to find it ultimatly funny and I find it ultimatly dull, I do not understand, espically when I look at some of the people who find it ultimatly funny and think that I would never have thought THEY would find it so funny.
Well, there are several factors to take into account besides the question of whether or not it IS funny. First up, there's the peer group thing. If one or two people think something is the coolest thing ever and talk about it constantly, a bunch of their friends will probably go along with that, even if the friends really find it only mildly interesting. Why else do you think fads exist? I'm pretty sure three quarters of the kids who went ape for Pokemon stuff, or trading cards of various types, or Bey Blades (the latest thing here to inspire shoppers to tear each other's throats out in discount-store queues) didn't give a damn about the item on its own merits and wouldn't look twice at it if they didn't think everybody else on earth thought it was wonderful.
Second, and related to the above: it's often fun to use such things as conversation topics within your peer group. It's a bonding thing, I suppose. To pick something at random, I happen to like the movie "The Princess Bride". I've seen it a dozen times, I guess. I just about know all the dialogue by heart. Do I like it enough to spend an entire conversation quoting lines from it and making in-jokes about it? Well, no. I wouldn't spend an evening doing this by choice. But on a couple of occasions I've been around friends who *do*, and on those occasions I've joined in and had a great time. Let me add that if anybody EXCEPT these particular friends started up a "let's quote lines from a movie" conversation, I'd be more inclined to want to shoot that person in the head than join in. The actual topic of conversation, in this case, is just a vehicle for the *real* source of the fun, which is being with your friends.
Third factor: you're the age where the first factor is HUGE in everyday social life. You're also the age where you probably won't come into contact with as big a range of people as you will later on. The fact that almost everybody you know likes a particular website might mean it's a good website, or it might mean you don't know enough people. Or it might mean both, or neither.
So there you go, a full analysis. To answer your final question, sorry, but none of the above actually rules out that there's something wrong with you as well. :-P
