Way below sea level.

They tell me that the Salton Sea was created by a mistake early in the 20th century. Water for irrigation was diverted from the Colorado River, but things got out of control and the water filled a below-sea-level dry lake bed and formed the Salton Sea. It is shrinking a little now, but it's still wide, long, and deep. And salty. I recommend that you avoid the north end which is polluted. It is about three times as salty as the ocean, but there are a few things that can live in it. I didn't see any boats. I guess corrosion would be a major problem. It stinks a little, but it's still a nice place to go when the rest of the country is having winter. Howard
