One thing that I've noticed that sets this game apart from some of the other games you may have played here is time-passing style. I finished Fantasy Quest and Fantasy Quest II before starting TOA, and the major stylistic difference is that in TOA, there can be a lot of *waiting* involved, but you can tell that even if you're standing around "examining the area" sixty times, there are things happening, and if you wait long enough, the situation around you might change in your favor.
That's your tip for getting the shirt. As far as the shorts: give 'em hell!
