The fact that I'm in immediate contact with them, but at the same time unable to see them and know what else they're doing, leads me to assume that talking to me is the only thing occupying their time. And something of the same sort extends to email. > > If they're like me, they're going over and back over what they've typed, or wondering how or if to respond, or even if a change of subject is due, even if that is all they're doing. Good thing AOL implemented the "(name) is typing..." thing.
Oh dear. See, that's what I'm always afraid of. I've just gotten through convincing myself that most often it's nothing personal or related to the conversation at all, and now you've gone and thrown me into doubt and paranoia again. Thanks, thanks a lot.
I love the "(name) is typing" thing. Except that now when I type something and change my mind, I know the other person knows it (if they care.) And when the other person is shown to be typing something, but never actually sends it, I'm riddled with curiosity. Such is the plight of an obsessively self-conscious over-thinker.
And yet, life goes on.
