But that is for one movie or multiple movies with different characters. Matthew Broderick sold me on Ferris Bueller even though I knew he wasn't a high schooler. But watching an 11 year old play an 11 year old gives me a point of reference, especially if he is a 12 year old playing a 12 year old in the next movie. It might work but chances are that one of those kids won't fit the look of their character's age by the seventh film. I would rather have them look older than to change actors, though.
Some of the actors may have been the same age as their characters, but certainly in the case of Dan Radcliffe, you were watching a 13 year old play an 11 year old. Which means that he'll be a 16 year old playing a 13 year old when in the third film. He isn't contracted to play Harry after that, and neither he nor the studio want him to.
