> A tangent: IS there some global generic name for what I just referred to as tevas? Using that term was one of my little "translate into American" moments, because I knew nobody would know what I meant if I said "reefwalkers", which is what they are called here. I had not heard the word "tevas" until Leen visited a couple of years ago. "Sandals" doesn't work, because sandals are the indoor or at least non-h4rdc0r3 version. And "sports sandals" just sounds stupid.
I still have no clue what you're on about. Then again "sandal" implies open-toed strapiness, and wearing anything open-toed around here is never wise, unless you have a burning desire to have your toes drop off.
I agree about shoes, though - I've been buying the same brand of boot for about 4 years now, a style suitable for formal wear and lazing about in. Instead of trainers (sneakers?) I stick to squash shoes. However, I diversified by purchasing in the sales a pair of nifty approach shoes for climbing purposes - think of a cross between a trainer and a walking boot, all flexibility and waterproof goodness.
