Why limit it to college level? Teaching at any level, is vastly underpaid. For many years, my wife made more money than me. She was a secretary and I was a teacher. She didn't have a degree, and had fewer years on the job.
I had a friend who quit teaching and went to a management position at a Coca Cola bottling plant. He doubled his teaching salary.
My sons, both of them, contract trim in new houses. They hang doors, install baseboard and do a little custom cabinet work. The two of them make as much money in a year as five teachers.
I know an auto mechanic who became a teacher in an auto mechanics class at the high school. He said he nearly starved for three years. Then he went back to being a mechanic.
I know a lady who taught high school math. She started selling real estate on the side so her kids could go to college. Now she sells real estate full time and drives a new Lincoln. She said she doesn't miss the Ford Pinto she had when she was teaching.
I knew a teacher who was a veteran of four years in the Air Force. He taught one year and then went back to the Air Force. He said it was the money. No, he wasn't a pilot. Not even an officer. Howard
