I had a great Christmas, how about you? posted by Brunnen-G on Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at 20:10:07:
Just an hour and forty minutes ago! And had I not traveled to my grandmothers it would have just been 40 minutes ago!
So, christmas eve I was at my parents, and it starts pouring down rain the night before, and our basement, where my room is, starts flooding (we are pretty sure there's a well under it that rises with the water table....) and so I had to sleep in the other room on the daybed. Next morning there's an inch of water in the flooded section and some has seeped into the room I'm in and it's still coming in. Dad hauls in the shop vac and starts it going. We planned to leave at 8am and drive to augusta, ga to be at my grandmothers (dad's side) for christmas eve dinner, however, it was still flowing nicely at 2pm... My sister and I went to subway to pick up lunch since we had no food in the house, anticipating a week absence, but subway was OUT OF BREAD! (For the non-US rinkies who may not know, Subway is a sub sandwich shop, the main thing they sell is SANDWICHES, the main ingrediant of a sandwich is BREAD, right? I was a bit confused as to how a sandwich shop runs out of BREAD when they bake it in the STORE...) Anyway, we got out some frozen shrimp and fried them and had shrimp po-boys. We decided at 2pm to just leave the river coming through our basement and leave. Drove 8 hours to augusta in fog the WHOLE WAY, i've never seen so much continuous fog!!
Anyway, it's now Christmas mornig (1:50am) and I am about to sleep. Appologies in advance for all the typos my sleep deprived mind has made in this post.
Tomorow evening is christmas dinner here, at my mom's mother's. IT's the first Christmas since my grandfather passed away in the late winter. So.. yeah. Deffinatly not easy on her or us.
But we are here, we are safe, we are sleeping (except me and i just HAD to check my e-mail and the forums!) So things are good, goodnight!
