I saw that episode... very interesting commentary on the inteligence of the American public...
I figured out how they get the money to give away a couple-hundred thousand a night, though. The phone call to get you on the show costs you $1.50. Think about it. Does it really cost the phone company $1.50 to connect you? I bet AT&T even donates the phone line to the show in exchange for advertising! So that means if it costs you 50cents for a long-distance call, then they're making at least $1 a call. How many people do you suppose call in per night? A million, maybe?
Well, that's how I think it's done. And the way they avoid giving out the grand prize is that they make the questions cover a broad topic area. For instance, a genius would definately know on which animal Hannibal crossed the Alps, but he may not know where Monica Lewinsky's blue dress was purchased. And an idiot could tell you the name of one of the Spice Girls, but he probably wouldn't know which rights are alloted to you in the First Amendment.
Speaking of stupidity, did anyone have the misfortune to witness any part of the Miss Teen USA Pageant? They were asking them multiple choice interview questions, such as "If you had to give away one of your Beanie Babies, would it be, A)..."
