I've kept up with this thread and everything I might want to say has already been said. But the above point is one I fully agree with.

I see too many kids today who just don't know basic scientific theory or basic facts. They have no idea that such a thing as the Periodic Table even exists, let alone what it is a table of or who devised it.

They don't know what happens if you pour water in acid or how it we all stay on the ground instead of floating off into space.

My old University, once famed for its scientific courses, which saw it top the graduate employment tables for 20 years, has gone all artsy. My old tutor said that once they put "and management" or "and computing" or something in all the courses they got more students.

I despair sometimes.
