Because it's not a true belief, really. It's just something to follow to get you through; it's a thing you look at afterward and go, "Oh yeah, that was right!" -- it's something you listen to and look forward to when it gives you a good prediction ("I'm supposed to get a compliment today from a cute guy! I can't wait!"), or something you use to confirm your own paranoia or superstitions ("I knew it; those people across the street are watching me! See, it says right here: 'Someone's keeping an eye on you.'").
What's the point in pinpointing its nature when its purpose isn't to give you purpose but to make you feel better or more right? And if it's wrong, what harm does it do, since it involves no strict, life-changing beliefs? All such things require is that you listen and allow a possibility.
