Reading this after I replied to Joanna's post, it seems that having a birthday cake for Jesus might be a more common idea than I thought. So, next question: *is* this a widespread family tradition for religious Christmases in America? Or any other countries, for that matter?
Even if everybody replies saying "yes", I plan to still go through life pretending it was all Joanna's idea.
The extent of religious tradition for Christmas (and Easter) in my family was "the two days in the year when the rest of the family goes to Mum's church with her." I always liked going to church on Christmas; oddly enough, our one religious tradition of the season always seemed to be more based on family than religion. It wasn't the being-in-church part I enjoyed so much as all of us being there because my mother liked it.
