For the cat you need to feed the rabbit and then hang around the cat for a bit (remember to stall, stall, stall!). Give your gold to the soothsayer.
You can't get into the fortress until you've done a few more things, getting past the cat for example, and even then you can't get in using the draw bridge.
I'm not too sure about the gold pieces so just remember to look everywhere. Try clicking more than once. that can help sometimes.
