My question is: Who here actually *likes* the way turkey tastes? After all, (and here I quote Iron Chef Roksaburo Michiba) "[Turkey] is just an oversized chicken." Does anyone actually prefer turkey over chicken, flavor-wise?
For what it's worth, chicken makes me gag. I can detect very small amounts of chicken when it is used as an ingredient. I've seen what chickens will eat and I can tell you that there is no such thing as a completely grain-fed chicken. Beyond the chalky taste, there is a nasty taste that I can't stand. But I can eat a bite or two of turkey if I chase it with cranberry sauce. However, I am glad that there is always a bit of ham on the table. Yes, I know what pigs eat, which may be why I am not really fond of pork. I can only eat it highly seasoned. A ham that isn't properly cooked in apple or pineapple juice with a little clove is not good, IMHO. Sometimes I get ham on a buffet and it will taste like old rubber. Home cooked ham is better. I smother barbarque in sauce. Beef is better, but only if cooked through and through. Sometimes I suspect that I am really a vegetarian who hasn't caught on yet.
I guess that was too much of an answer. Let's just say chicken, no; turkey, a qualified yes. Howard
