oh shoot. I realized i was talking about fantasy quest two when i replied to your message. well, anyway, the book is in the third level of the tower. If you don't have a hook yet, you need to trade for one in the store, attach the hook to your rope and throw it. you'll get to the third floor. about the castle beyond the garden, forget the ladder. that's from fantasy quest two. you need to use the magic stone on the drawbridge, and the pass ring to get by the fire.the jewelled dagger comes in use here, to get by the guardian. Then explore and you will fing the float ring.
um...examining the bookcase shoves you out. looking behind pictures and or armchairs repeatedly gets you upstairs. i think you said the wrong thing.
