I ran into that exact same problem. "I can't get the sword; why does everyone else have that crown?" Then I realized there was one part of the forest I hadn't searched. Keep looking; you'll find it. Don't bother with interactions with creatures or with pointless things. Do one of the "Examine/search the area" (or something to that effect) and if it's the right one; you'll know it.
