I collect animation art - which means sketches (storyboard, character layouts, cel pre-work) and animation cels. I collect mostly pieces from anime, and right now I have 11 sketches and 6 cels.
It really is a very fun hobby (although if you're collecting cels of popular characters/series it can be very pricey indeed... I steer clear of that) and it's pretty darn cool to be watching an anime episode and see a cel that's now in my collection. :) Actually looking at the individual cels really makes you realize how labor-intensive animation really is. A lot of cels are actually stunningly beautiful in real life... I only WISH I could paint that cleanly.
So far, I've yet to spend more than $30 on any one thing, although that might change soon. I'm extremely, EXTREMELY tempted by a gorgeous cel (of Gon from Hunter x Hunter, if you care, which you probably don't) that costs $33 plus $10 shipping from Japan... well.
In short: Can be pricey, but also beautiful. After all, it really is a form of art, although most of us are so desensitized to it that we don't always remember that. :)
