The missing coin IS in the forest. Make sure you've kicked leaves around, examined the area, checked the area for traps in EVERY screen. I believe it's near some otherwise useless notes.

As for the tower, what you need can be obtained on the 3rd floor. (If you keep getting kicked out when you mess with the bookshelf, well... do ANYTHING but mess with the bookshelf.)
