FQ2: Help needed with drake

I can't seem to figure out how to defeat the drake in FQ2. I have the sword, and I have tried fighting the drake for a long time. I even mapped out all (I think) of the possible "paths" through the fight! I have also searched through the hints board, and found nothing helpful. Everyone seems to defeat the drake easily as soon as they have the sword. As far as I can tell, one of the following is true:

1. There is a special sequence of moves I need to make during the fight. If this is the case, I could use a hint to that effect.

2. I'm missing another item that I need in addition to the sword. I don't think this is the case, but here's my inventory: Onions, Crown, Cross, Pliers, Sack, Float Ring, Roc Feather, Iron Support, Small Silver Coin, Sap Tap, Coconut, Sword, Silver Key, Bucket of Sea Water, Blue Ball, and Sunstone.

3. (Most likely) I'm missing something completely obvious that's going to make me fell like an idiot when I find out about it.
