It's a fast route to drive at night, when there are no commuters, but there's a good reason why, when we drove from Boston to DC for the first RinkUnion, we took I-84 from Connecticut west to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, then I-80 / I-81 south through Maryland. Going that way, it's practically nothing BUT country and small towns, even the New York part. > > Notice that sam leaves out that part about I-91 through Hartford. That was the part where we sat in traffic for two hours without moving, which SOMEONE SMART may have said was going to happen. Too bad no one listened to him, huh? Everyone else was all "no, Hartford will be fine." So he just said "okay, we'll go that way," and got proved right. > > But he also got to laugh at the puppet-people in the car in front of him, so it was okay. :-}
I'm in total agreement that New England is beautiful in the fall, not to mention the rest of the year. But if you don't live there, you can see similar color in the hardwood forests that extend from there all the way south to northern Georgia. That means almost all of the area covered by the original 13 colonies plus Kentucky, Tennessee, and parts of some other states. I like to drive to New England during that period, because, like they say, getting there is half the fun. In 1990, we drove to Canada, then traveled east and entered New England from the north. It was summer, but still a very scenic trip. Howard
