I'm a character actor through-and-through, and let me just tell you, acting school doesn't like that. They want everyone to be a method actor. :-}

One of my favorite Hollywood stories is from the movie "Marathon Man" with Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier. During the climax of the movie, Hoffman's character has stayed up all night running around and being tortured and other fun stuff.

While filming one of these final scenes, Hoffman comes in one day looking particularly haggard. Olivier sees him and asks why he looks so bad. Hoffman explains that, being a method actor, he had actually stayed up all night before so he would feel the part. Olivier looks at him and says, "Dustin, my dear boy, why don't you try acting? It's much easier."

Ste "Not an actor myself, but it's a great story from a pretty good movie" phen
