I far prefer the arrivals lounge to the departure lounge. I'm not sure why, but it might be the fact that everyone is on their own personal time, and no-one is in a real hurry.
But airports, and all transport termini (even bus stations) are fun places to be.
Oh, and on the subject of security: I remember the first time I flew to America, several years ago. I had to fill in a visa exemption form on which the first question was "Have you ever commited a crime of moral terpitude?" When I got to the customs desk, I asked the chap what exactly that meant, because I didn't want to lie on an official form. His reply? "Just tick the damn box." Apparently he didn't know, either.
