a few random thoughts on my age

When you are 69, does that make you equal to three 23-year-olds?

I saw where a lady who was 114 died recently. She lived in three different centuries, including every single minute of the 20th. I think I'd like to live in three different centuries, but the inconvenience of having to live to 167 makes it seem impractical.

I went to an antique car show the other day and one of the cars was a 1934 DeSoto. It was a year younger than me. The first cars I remember as a toddler looked like that. My mother would tell you that I have always been interested in cars. Even when I was two. There were several Model A Fords at the show. They made them from 1928 to 1931 and all of them are older than me. Condition is another matter.

When my grandfather was my age, he was still a young man. He was 22 when the 20th century began and he lived 97 years. My other grandfather died at 50 in 1925. Guess which one didn't smoke.

I remember the time I sprained my ankle while trying to catch a football. I was two years old.
Can you believe that anyone could remember something that happened 67 years ago? I guess it hurt enough to make a lasting impression.

When I was a kid, I dreaded my birthday because it meant that summer was almost over and school was about to start. That's not a problem anymore.

Not having a birthday cake helps me stay slim and trim, but the major advantage is not seeing all those candles, and listening to that dumb joke about calling the fire department.

If I was in Congress, I'd introduce a bill making it illegal to count birthdays after you start drawing social security. They aren't good for much after that anyway.

Robert Louis Stevenson had a good idea. He met a little girl who was born on Feb. 29. Her birthday came up only on leap year. So he had a legal paper drawn up giving his own birthday to her, so she could have one every year.
